As the transfer season gets underway, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is already in the spotlight.
Last December, after a fallout with head coach Ruben Amorim over concerns about his work ethic, Rashford lost his place in United’s matchday squad.
When the winter transfer window arrived, with little hope of earning his way back, the forward had no choice but to seek game time elsewhere.
Aston Villa stepped in, offering Rashford an escape route, and he accepted it.
The Red Devils agreed to send their number 10 to Villa Park on loan, a deal that includes an option to buy for £40 million.
Under Unai Emery, Rashford rediscovered his joy on the pitch, showing glimpses of his brilliance as he recorded four goals and six assists in 17 games.
But his resurgence was cut short in late April when a hamstring injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.
It remains unclear whether Villa will take up the option to sign Rashford permanently.
This uncertainty has opened the door for other suitors, with reports suggesting Rashford is likely to leave Manchester United permanently this summer.
One club emerging as a strong contender for his signature is Barcelona.
Before Rashford’s move to Villa, the Spanish giants attempted to lure him to Catalonia, but financial constraints prevented them from securing the deal.
Now, the 2024-25 La Liga champions seem poised to make another attempt.
Just days ago, The Peoples Person relayed comments from Barcelona sporting director Deco, who spoke highly of Rashford, hinting at the club’s admiration for the player.
And while United fans were still trying to assess Deco’s remarks, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has now also expressed his admiration for Rashford.
Flick was asked about Rashford and fellow Premier League winger Luis Diaz, another reported Barcelona target, as speculation over their futures continues to grow.
The German tactician responded as per The Metro:
“They are both fantastic players. I like them, and we’ll see what happens in the summer transfer window.”
With these comments from Deco and Flick, it feels as though Barcelona are laying the groundwork to convince Rashford to prioritise them as he considers his future.
For Manchester United, who are aiming to boost their transfer budget, Barcelona’s interest could work in their favour.
The club will be hoping their admiration for Rashford leads to a serious offer for their academy graduate.
A sale would allow United to strengthen Amorim’s attacking options, something they desperately need after a disappointing season in front of goal.
According to the MEN, a successful summer window for United would involve following up the Matheus Cunha signing with deals for a top striker and another number 10.
