Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, Ademola Lookman and Gianluca Scamacca – both Inter Milan and Atalanta can call on strong attacking pairs.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the matchup between the two attacking duos this evening.

Inter are somewhat of a rarity within elite European football.

The reason for this is that the Nerazzurri are a team that rely on two out-and-out strikers to lead the line in attack.

In recent years, the trend has strongly been towards teams having a lone striker. Then, there are goalscoring contributions from wingers and attacking midfielders, among others.

In Serie A, teams like AC Milan, Lazio, Fiorentina, and Napoli exemplify this wider European trend.

On the other hand, Juventus tend to play with two forward – Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa being first-choice.

And notably, Inter’s opponents this evening have also played with a strike partnership.

For Inter, there is no question of who the main man for goals is.

Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Maritnez has been the team’s top-scorer in each of the past two seasons.

And the Argentine has already scored eleven Serie A goals this time around.

But he has found a real top-level foil in the form of Marcus Thuram.

The Frenchman joined Inter in the summer, but already looks like he has been playing together with Thuram for far longer.

Thuram has so far chipped in with four league goals.

Meanwhile, for Atalanta, Lookman has become a key man in attack.

The 26-year-old Nigerian international joined La Dea last summer. Prior to then, he had played for the likes of Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City.

Last time around, Lookman scored thirteen goals for Atalanta. This season he has already bagged three.

But Atalanta’s top scorer so far this season is a player who joined in the summer.

Gianluca Scamacca has found the back of the net four times since his summer move from West Ham United.

Like Inter, there are also goalscoring contributions from other sources for Atalanta.

Midfielders Ederson and Teun Koopmeiners have both chipped in with three apiece.

But like the Nerazzurri, it is two strikers who really power La Dea’s attack.
