Real Madrid have secured an agreement to extend the contract of first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois until 2027.
It means that the 33-year-old shot-stopper will continue as the undisputed starter between the sticks for Los Blancos for the next couple of seasons, having established himself as one of the best in the business.
What it also means is that Andriy Lunin will have to play second-fiddle to Courtois for two more years, if he opts to stay at Real Madrid.
The Ukrainian international’s future has been a subject of speculation, with latest reports suggesting that La Liga club Villarreal are interested in signing him and have made an enquiry to check his availability.
However, according to MARCA, despite the current situation, Andriy Lunin wishes to stay and continue at Real Madrid.

Lunin, 26, has been a Real Madrid player since 2018, when he was signed from Zorya Luhansk. After having had three loan stints at Leganes, Real Valladolid, and Real Oviedo, he has been at the Santiago Bernabeu since 2020.
In those five years, however, the goalkeeper has made only 62 appearances, with Courtois being the undisputed starter under the crossbar.
Following recent developments, it is clear that Lunin’s situation is unlikely to improve. However, the Ukrainian stopper, who has a contract with Real Madrid until 2030, does not want to leave this summer.
Lunin is determined to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu even though he will have to continue playing the backup role to Courtois.
