Nketiah, Martinelli help Arsenal past Orlando City

Scorers: Torres 29′; Martinelli 5′, Nketiah 66′, Nelson 80′

Arsenal flexed their muscle on American soil, defeating Orlando City by a 3-1 margin after having to sit through a lengthy weather delay.

Gabriel Martinelli scored the game’s opening goal less than five minutes into the contest, playing a clever one-two with Albert Sambi Lokonga before his shot took a wicked deflection past Pedro Gallese.

Facundo Torres would respond with a spectacular equaliser just before the half-hour mark, shouldering off Nuno Tavares and taking a lovely touch before blasting a shot into the bottom corner from about 22 yards out.

Despite Torres’ heroics, Arsenal would prove to be too good on the night as Eddie Nketiah thumped home an effort in a sea of Orlando City defenders.

Late in the match, Reiss Nelson would put the match to bed with Arsenal’s third, knocking home a lovely delivery from Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal and Chelsea will meet up for the Florida Cup this weekend.

Charlotte stun Chelsea after Pulisic opener

Scorers: Daniel Ríos 90+2′ (pen); Pulisic 30′

Chelsea looked to have defeated Charlotte FC thanks to a goal from Christian Pulisic but Daniel Ríos would convert a late penalty as the match ended in an unlikely 1-1 draw.

Pulisic scored at the half-hour mark, chipping goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina after a deflected shot fell into his path.

Raheem Sterling would come on for his Chelsea debut in the second half, replacing the aforementioned Pulisic.

Despite Chelsea leading 9-3 in terms of shots on target, the Charlotte goalkeepers would combine for eight saves, leaving the door open for Daniel Ríos to convert a stoppage-time penalty.

Charlotte would then go on to win the penalty shootout 5-3, with Sterling scoring on Chelsea’s fourth attempt. Conor Gallagher was the only player to miss.

De Bruyne at the double as City top América

Scorers: De Bruyne 30′, 45+1′; Martín 43′

Manchester City took their show to NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas and scored a 2-1 over Club América on Wednesday night.

Kevin De Bruyne was in phenomenal form as he scored a pair of first-half goals to lift City to victory.

Around the half-hour mark, De Bruyne scored a classic goal, knocking the ball past a defender before lacing a stunning strike into the far corner from outside the area.

Despite the wonderful hit, the Eagles struck back to draw level just before half-time as Henry Martín scored a phenomenal goal of his own, making Nathan Ake spin in circles before finishing past Stefan Ortega Moreno.

However, the score would only remain level for a brief time as De Bruyne would score his second of the game after a phenomenal ball from Riyad Mahrez put De Bruyne through to slot the ball between the legs of Memo Ochoa.

Erling Haaland was on the bench but did not make his City debut.

Manchester City will continue their pre-season tour with a match against Bayern Munich this weekend.

Everton embarrassed in Minnesota

Frank Lampard’s men will have plenty of explaining to do after Everton were dismantled 4-0 by Minnesota United.

Emanuel Reynoso, Luis Amarilla, and Abu Danladi all scored while the Toffees also put one into the back of their own net.

The Loons are currently in fourth in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference and eighth place in the overall MLS standings.
