Manchester United, Liverpool and the other clubs interested hold a different valuation of highly-rated teenager Kaide Gordon than Derby County, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Rams are facing significant financial issues at the moment and are under a transfer embargo after not paying their players fully in December.

The Daily Mail has reported that Derby see selling Gordon – described previously as “the best 16-year-old in the country” – as a way of raising money and are optimistic they could get a fee in excess of £1 million plus future add-ons for him.

Man United and Liverpool have both been linked with the young striker but it is understood that the Premier League giants, and other interested sides, value the player differently than the Rams.

Previous reports indicated that a seven-figure deal was expected to be done for the 16-year-old before the end of January.

A string of impressive academy products have broken into the Derby first team over the past few years, including the likes of Jason Knight and Louie Sibley, but it seems as if Gordon will not get his chance to do that.

The 16-year-old made his senior debut by coming off the bench in the 4-0 win against Birmingham City in December.

The Verdict

Selling Gordon looks like a blow for the Rams but perhaps a necessary evil given their current problems.

This update appears an obstacle to a potential deal, however, with Sheikh Khaled’s proposed Derby takeover continuing to be delayed and the East Midlands club facing financial issues, they may be forced to drop their asking price.

It’s going to be very interesting to see how things progress as we near the end of the window.
