Representatives of Norwich City playmaker Emi Buendia hope to travel to London in the coming weeks to open talks over a summer move to Arsenal, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The Canaries held onto the 24-year-old despite significant interest last summer and he has been continually linked with a move to Arsenal this month – with The Mirror indicating he is valued at around £40 million.

A January deal currently looks unlikely to materialise, with only 10 days left of the window, but Mundo Deportivo has reported that plans could be made soon for him to make the switch to the Emirates in the summer.

The report claims that Buendia is being targetted by the north London club after Mesut Ozil’s move to Fenerbahçe but for the time being it is “only interest”.

It is understood that the 24-year-old’s representatives hope to travel to the English capital to open talks with Arsenal over joining the club in the summer.

Buendia has been sensational for Norwich this season, scoring seven times and adding seven assists as he’s helped Daniel Farke’s side go top of the table in their first season back in the Championship.

The Argentine has proven his quality in the Premier League as well, having added one goal and seven assists for the Canaries last term.

The Verdict

This is good news for Arsenal.

A January move looks unlikely but if they can get a summer move ready to go ahead of time then that will represent some very shrewd business.

Despite their recent upturn in fortunes, the Gunners have often looked a side lacking in creative spark this term and the 24-year-old could be a solution.

Farke has indicated that he isn’t interested in letting a key player leave midway through the season but it seems he may well have to bid farewell to Buendia in the summer.

With his contract running until 2024, it’s unlikely to be cheap for the Premier League club.
