Adam Idah is hoping to join Celtic on a permanent basis from Norwich City in the summer amid talk of a £5m deal.

Adam Idah impresses on loan at Celtic

The Ireland international joined the Glasgow giants late in the January window, on a straight loan, and it’s fair to say that it’s a move that didn’t go down too well among the Celtic support at first.

However, Idah has emphatically silenced any doubters, scoring seven goals in 12 league games for Brendan Rodgers to help get their title bid back on track.

Crucially, a lot of those goals were important efforts, including late winners against Motherwell and Hibs, whilst he also found the net in a 3-3 draw at Rangers last month.

Even though Idah has had to settle for a place on the bench in recent weeks due to the form of Kyogo Furuhashi, he continues to feature regularly, and he is sure to play some part in the derby against Rangers on Saturday which could decide the title race.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Celtic are keen on keeping Idah in Scotland, and it has been suggested that a £5m fee will be required for the 23-year-old in the summer window.

And, in a further development, Football Insider has revealed that Idah wants to stay with Celtic.

Adam Idah is “very keen” to turn his Celtic loan deal into a permanent move from Norwich City. The Canaries have reportedly quoted the Glasgow club with a £5m fee to sign the Republic of Ireland international permanently once the transfer window reopens.

The forward, whose contract doesn’t expire until 2028, wants to play in the Champions League next season, with the Hoops sitting three points above Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Sources have suggested all parties are now keen to make the deal happen over the coming weeks.”

As outlined above, Norwich are under no pressure to cash in on Idah, as he still has four years left on his contract at Carrow Road, but the wishes of the player are sure to be a factor.

Norwich City’s summer plans

It’s difficult for Norwich to plan ahead for the summer, as they don’t know what division they’re in, with David Wagner’s side set to play Leeds United in the play-offs.

The recruitment team will be drawing up two lists of potential signings, but it seems either way that Idah could be on the move. And, in that case, they will surely be in the market for a new number nine.

Sydney van Hooijdonk joined as Idah’s replacement earlier this year, but he has struggled to make an impact, as he has featured in just ten games, most of which were brief appearances from the bench.

With Ashley Barnes having fitness issues, there is a real reliance on Josh Sargent at the moment, and the USA international could depart if the Canaries don’t win promotion to the Premier League.
