Manchester City are aiming to re-engage contractual talks with Ederson following an eventful summer concerning the future of the Brazilian.

The 31-year-old is fresh into a new season under Pep Guardiola following a summer of uncertainty that could have led to the goalkeeper bringing an end to his illustrious and transformational spell in English football.

Rumours intensified throughout the summer linking Ederson with a blockbuster move to the Middle-East, as a number of Saudi Arabian clubs looked to make Manchester City’s number one their new poster defensive player in the division.

From the side of Etihad Stadium recruitment staff, officials insisted that they would not be willing to stand in the way of an Ederson departure, providing that any interested club met their £50 million valuation.

With no such suitor doing that, and Ederson now starting the new season with Manchester City as their number one choice between the posts once again, a new report has detailed the next steps for the Premier League champions.

According to the information of TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, Manchester City want to re-engage Ederson in talks over a new contract at the club, after rejecting offers from Saudi Pro League duo Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad in the summer.

Representatives of the Brazilian are said to have opened contract talks with the Premier League champions before the summer market, but negotiations were paused amid interest from the Middle-East.

Manchester City are said to be eager to tie Ederson down to a new deal, despite his existing contract running until the end of the 2025/26 season, and the club have been waiting to see how the ongoing season started for the goalkeeper before choosing to re-open talks.

Such was the concern and uncertainty surrounding Ederson’s future throughout the summer transfer window that a report following the market’s closure revealed the name that Manchester City had identified to replace the Brazilian.

City were comfortable in a decision that would have seen Stefan Ortega Moreno promoted into the number one role, had Ederson left the club for the Middle-Easter millions, before turning towards the market for a new back-up.

Werder Bremen’s Michael Zetterer was Manchester City’s number one replacement option, according to various reports.
