Barcelona began 2021 with a narrow win over LaLiga’s bottom club Huesca on Sunday evening.
A solitary first half goal from Frenkie de Jong was enough to give Ronald Koeman’s side a victory which lifts them to 5th in LaLiga.
Pedri, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembélé all went close in the early stages for Barcelona, before they did take the lead in the 27th minute.
Messi picked out De Jong with a nice ball over the top, and the Dutch midfielder cushioned his header past the goalkeeper.
Messi then went close to getting on the scoresheet himself just before half-time, but his free-kick was saved superbly by Huesca goalkeeper Álvaro Fernández.
Dembélé almost made it 2-0 in the second half but his lofted effort was cleared off the line by Javi Galán.
The struggling hosts grew into the game as the second half wore on, with Rafa Mir and Javier Ontiveros both forcing saves from Marc-André ter Stegen.
Fernández then made another fine save to deny Dembélé 15 minutes from time, but 1-0 was how it finished.
