According to a report from Football.London, Hugo Lloris’ future at the club hangs in a balance as Tottenham Hotspur are looking for his successor at North London. The French shot-stopper has been a crucial member of the Lilywhites since 2012 as he remained their first-choice keeper over the years but he’s already 36 years old and Spurs are forced to look for a long-term replacement this summer.

Lloris’ Campaign At Tottenham Hotspur So Far This Season

Lloris has had a decent start at Tottenham this season with a few influential displays at the back. However, he has only managed to keep 7 clean sheets over 21 appearances in the Premier League and conceded 29 goals while operating between the sticks in the English first division.

The retired France international has earned 127 clean sheets over 357 appearances for Spurs in the Premier League since joining them in 2012. He captained the France national team leading them to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Nations League in 2021. Furthermore, he has also led the Lilywhites to the UEFA Champions League finals in the 2018/19 season (stats via Premier League).

Should Lloris Look To Exit This Summer?

Lloris is agile and excels at handling the ball. The French shot-stopper comes out on crosses to eliminate any danger and has the ability to distribute the ball to his teammates even under pressure.

The Spurs captain has been an integral part of the defensive department at Hotspur Way. Tottenham have failed to bring in a decent backup goalkeeper who could succeed him in the long term, so a new arrival would pave way for his replacement in the starting XI.

However, with the arrival of a newcomer at the end of this season his minutes as a regular in the match-day squad could drastically decrease, so a move away from the North London club might be the only viable solution for him if he wishes to continue playing at a high-level being a first-choice keeper for his side. A return to his boyhood club OG Nice could be one of his choices or he could even go on to play at the MLS during his retirement phase. It remains to be seen what his future beholds at the end of this season.
