French football has been angered by Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte's decision to commit to Spain.

Never capped by Les Bleus, Laporte has announced he is switching his international allegience to Spain as he targets the Euros this summer.

Former PSG and France midfielder Jerome Rothen slammed Laporte, declaring: "When you sign up and feel French, you go with France. If you feel Spanish, you go with Spain. But don't be opportunistic."

Former Arsenal and France World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit also said: "So you can choose the country you want? Do you want to?

"He had claimed his love for the French team and suddenly he went to Spain."
