French club Lens have made an enquiry to sign Nottingham Forest’s Brice Samba.

According to French outlet L’equipe, Lens have made their interest in the goalkeeper known.

Samba recently turned down a new contract offer to stay at the City Ground, with his current deal set to expire in 12 months.

Forest are preparing for life in the Premier League having earned promotion to the top flight via the play-offs.

Samba played a key role in their play-off triumph as the star man in the semi-final penalty shootout against Sheffield United.

His three saves were crucial in securing victory, with the 28-year old having also made many spectacular stops during the preceding 120 minutes.

Samba was also first choice goalkeeper for Steve Cooper’s side throughout the campaign as they finished 4th in the Championship table.

The shot-stopper has been with the Reds since 2019 having signed from French side Caen.

Samba previously played in Ligue 1 with Marseille from 2013 to 2017, where he failed to break into the starting side.

The Verdict

With only one-year left on Samba’s contract, the club are now in a very difficult situation.

While Samba had plenty of stand out performances for Cooper’s side, and was crucial in the team gaining promotion, it is not clear that this contract stand-off is particularly worth it.

Forest will need to seriously consider selling if it becomes evident that the goalkeeper will not sign a new deal.

Samba has also played his cards well as he will likely earn a big contract whatever decision he makes next in his career.
