Frieburg boss Christian Streich has confirmed he will retire at the end of the season.

Streich has been in charge of the Black Forest side for 12 years, during which time they have gone from the 2.Bundesliga to consistent European football.

Before that Streich was a respected midfielder for the club and then went on to manage their under-19s and reserve teams.

But after nearly 30 years as a coach, the 58-year-old has decided to call it a day come the end of the campaign.

“I have thought long and had many discussions, but I believe, after 29 years, now is the right time to make room for new energy, new people, and new opportunities,” he said.

“It has been very important to me in the past not to miss the moment when I believe it is right to leave.”

Freiburg are currently ninth in the Bundesliga, having struggled to juggle domestic and Europa League commitments this term.
