MINNEAPOLIS – The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup continued with the United States and Costa Rica playing to a 2-2 draw, with the U.S. winning 4-3 on PKs, in the Quarterfinals on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

Francisco Calvo opened the scoring in the 12’ with a conversion from the penalty spot to place Costa Rica in front.

The United States had a penalty chance in the 37’ but the attempt from Malik Tillman hit the left post. Max Arfsten had a shot off the rebound that was denied by Keylor Navas.

Diego Luna equalized for the U.S. in the 43’ with a left-footed shot from the center of the box.

Max Arfsten placed the U.S. in the lead in the 47’ with a right-footed shot from the left side of the box to connect with a service from Tillman.

Alonso Martínez tied the match in the 71’ with a left-footed finish from the center of the box. Carlos Mora was influential in the buildup, dribbling through defenders to take a shot that was denied by Matt Freese before laying off the assist.

Martínez nearly regained the lead for Costa Rica in the 85’ with a shot from outside the box that hit the right post. With the score level at full time, the match went to a penalty shoot-out.

Martínez converted first for Los Ticos, with Tyler Adams striking first for the U.S. in the spot kicks.

Freese made three saves in the shoot-out before Damion Downs converted the winning penalty.

The United States advances to the Semifinals and will face Guatemala on Wednesday at Energizer Park in St. Louis, Missouri.
