Free agent Messi touches down in Barcelona this morning

Free agent Lionel Messi has touched down in Barcelona this morning.

After leading Argentina to the Copa America title, Messi has enjoyed an extended summer break, where he and his family have spent time in Miami and the Caribbean.

The midfielder returns to the city off contract at Barcelona and with no guarantee that he can sign a new contract. The Argentine must wait for Barca to offload several senior teammates in order for his contract to fit under Barca's salary cap.

Messi is due to report for preseason training on August 2, though nothing is guaranteed given his contract status.

The Argentine has agreed a five-year deal with Barca, though nothing will be signed until room is made inside Barca's wage cap.
