Ipswich Town forward Freddie Ladapo has admitted he had sleepless nights over not scoring goals in his first few games for the Tractor Boys this season.

Ladapo arrived at Portman Road this summer on a free transfer after seeing his contract expire with Rotherham United.

Nevertheless, he has had to wait until very recently to net his first Tractor Boys league goal, ironically coming against one of his former club’s, Plymouth Argyle.

He followed that strike up with another against Portsmouth this weekend just past, taking his tally for the season to four when you include his two goals in the EFL trophy.

Although things appear brighter now, Ladapo admits going goalless and not hitting the ground running in terms of goalscoring in his first few matches really affected him.

“I was beyond frustrated that I didn’t get goals in my first few games. I had sleepless nights.” Ladapo explained, via TWTD.co.uk.

“You can ask my missus and I think even my two-month-old daughter could feel it.

“I was not happy at all but you know what they say, once you get into your groove you start to hit things that you probably wouldn’t have done before.

“I’m very happy to be out of that phase now.

Ladapo and his teammates next face Cambridge United in League One action this evening.

No doubt the 29-year-old will be once again keen to get on the scoresheet.

The Verdict

It’s really awful to hear how frustrated Freddie Ladapo came as his wait for a league goal at Ipswich went on.

As a striker, goals are what you are ultimately judged on so you can understand why it was such a frustrating period for the forward.

In the end, though, quality is always going to shine through and that has been the case in recent weeks.

Ladapo can really kick on now, and with Ipswich flying in League One at the moment, you can see him bagging plenty of goals as the season progresses.
