According to a report by Le Parisien, Eintracht Frankfurt are considering a move for Stade Rennais’ Arthur Theate (24). The German club have opened discussions with their French counterparts for the defender. No agreement had been reached yesterday evening, but negotiations are set to continue later today.

Theate had looked likely to leave Rennes this summer after it was reported that he was on the verge of a shock move to the Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad Club. The Belgian defender had completed his medical and all the contracts were ready to be signed and made official. However, infighting in the club derailed the progress of the transfer.

A return to the Europa League for Arthur Theate?

There had been rumours that Premier League clubs were interested in the defender. However, it now looks as if Theate’s future may lie with Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. If the defender joins the German side he will have another chance at European football with the club having secured passage into this year’s Europa League courtesy of their sixth-place finish.
