Frank Lampard has finally spoken about Chelsea’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, who is increasingly being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. The 21-year-old has been labelled as a ‘top player’ by Lampard and the statement does little to quell the rumours.
According to Goal.com, Lampard said:
“He’s [Havertz] obviously a top player, but to carry on from my answer before I’m certainly not going to comment on other players at other teams. And it cannot be our focus. So, nothing to say.“No. No bids have gone in.”
After capturing Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, Chelsea have turned their attention towards the midfield. Unlike Werner and Ziyech, Havertz will not be cheap, as he could cost in excess of £80 million. The blues are rich in cash at a time when other clubs are finding it difficult to raise funds for signing players. Keen to make the most of the situation, Chelsea are interested in signing a player who has been a star asset in the Bundesliga over the last few seasons.
Kai Havertz has been with Leverkusen since 2010, but he made his first-team breakthrough in 2016. After taking time to settle, Havertz has blossomed in the last two seasons. He has come up with 36 goals in the last two seasons apart from many more assists. Even though Chelsea’s midfield is already rich with talent, signing a young player like Havertz will be a welcome sign.
