Christian Pulisic is set to miss the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season with a hamstring injury, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed.

After firing the Blues in front in the FA Cup final last weekend, the winger pulled his hamstring after the break as his side fell to a 2-1 loss against Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League second leg clash against Bayern Munich (which they trail 3-0) on Saturday night, Lampard discussed his side’s injury problems.

“Pulisic is out along with César Azpilicueta, Willian and Pedro but Ruben Loftus-Cheek and N’Golo Kanté are fit to start,” Lampard told reporters after touching down in Bavaria.

“Azpilicueta has a three-week injury and Pedro has a six-week one after he had surgery last week. With Christian, we’re also looking at a six-week injury.

“We’re just going to focus on getting Christian fit and ready. If he misses the first one or two games back then that’s fine – we can wait for him to be fit and firing like he was after the restart.”

With Willian on the verge of sealing a cross-city switch to Arsenal, Lampard was also keen to stress that neither party was to blame for the Brazilian exiting.

“I haven’t got an answer about Willian’s future because he remains our player and was injured for the cup final and for this one,” he added.

“He’d have given everything to play in these games. I know Willian. As a club, we’ve done everything to explain the situation to him.

“Our relationship is close and I don’t want anyone to have a negative attitude towards him. The club acted very well. He’ll leave a hole because he’s performed well here for several years.

“When a player is out of contract though, they have the option to play wherever they want. A player like him could contribute to any team.”
