The Sky Blues have been on a rampant run of form in the second tier under the former Chelsea midfielder, winning eight out of their last nine league games for the first time in over 55 years.

Such a sensational run of form has seen the West Midlands outfit firmly assert themselves in the play-off race, with the club jumping up to fifth place after their recent triumph at Oxford United.

Storming into the top six with just 11 games of the season to go, it appears Coventry have hit their stride at the perfect time, but the pressure is on to hold onto that spot, with many clubs hunting for their place.

After putting themselves into contention for a place in the Premier League next term, Lampard has been asked about the upcoming summer transfer window, with the 46-year-old revealing multiple plans are in place depending on their successes come the end of the season.

As reported by the Coventry Telegraph, the Sky Blues are already primed for business in the summer to ensure they bring in the type of players that can deliver long-term success, but Frank Lampard did concede original plans have been scuppered due to their rise up the table.

Asked if he has half an eye on the summer transfer window himself, Lampard said: “Yeah, it’s not half an eye though. I don’t know, maybe an eighth of an eye or something, you know. It’s a small bit in my head because I think a modern day coach’s job is so day to day, week to week, that it’s really difficult to jump too far ahead.

“But I think we have a responsibility to do that, so Dean (Austin, head of recruitment) is constantly doing that with Doug (King). We’re in constant communication with it and understanding where the squad’s at and where we want to get it to. But those things are always very fluid and mobile to the end of the season and the summer, and along with contracts and agents and all these things.”

Lampard added: “So I think we try and cover all bases, generally, but my focus is absolutely on what’s in front of us now because we’re the masters of now and what we can do, whether we can make the play-offs or not and what that will mean for the club for next season. There are obvious variables, so we try to stay ahead of those, but my main focus is, obviously, day to day.”

With nothing guaranteed yet as the season remains in play, the Coventry City hierarchy should relax over future plans and let Frank Lampard continue the wonderful job he’s done so far at the club.

The ex-England international has inherited large portions of the squad, and has done incredibly well to get a tune out of the players and get them fighting towards where many people expected them to be at the beginning of the campaign.

Taking it game-by-game, Coventry should just firmly focus on cementing a play-off place come May, and figuring out which players they should be targeting once their fate has been sealed.
