The Telegraph and BBC Sport both report late on Friday that Lampard is the Toffees choice to replace Rafael Benítez, and the former Chelsea and England midfielder is currently mulling their offer over.

Benitez was sacked earlier this month with Everton languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, and former striker Wayne Rooney as well as Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira were both considered for the vacant Goodison Park manager’s role.

But Rooney ruled himself out and after fans protested against Pereira’s potential appointment, Lampard has emerged as the Merseyside outfit’s prime target.

If he accepts their offer, his first match in charge will likely be an FA Cup tie against Brentford on 5 February.
