One of the questions left hanging after Frank Lampard’s sacking at Chelsea was about Fikayo Tomori.

The defender had been with him at Derby, had done so well in their first season together at Stamford Bridge, but then became something of an outcast as the tricky second season developed.

In January, just before Lampard went, Tomori was loaned to AC Milan with an option to buy – an option they took up without hesitation 6 exceptional months later.

The former Blues’ boss’ comments, which you can read embedded in the Tweet here or in the Metro, don’t clear up exactly what the issue is, but they do admit that there was something more than just performances:

Hopefully one day we will know the whole truth – but for now at least we can see Fikayo thriving in Serie A, despite having had to leave his boyhood club.

However it ended, their time together was amazing for Fik, and set him up for where he is now.
