On the fifth anniversary of the fans' final game at Griffin Park, Thomas Frank discussed Brentford's move to Gtech Community Stadium and how it has benefitted the club in their journey to the Premier League.

The Bees' 5-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday was the last time the supporters saw the club play at Griffin Park - which Frank acknowledges was "our home" - but the head coach expressed how a move to the new stadium has helped the club grow.

"For any club, when you move into a new stadium, it can bring new sponsors and improve hospitality on matchdays, and that's important," said Frank.

"But, also, a new stadium just gives you something, it lifted, and we needed that.

"Griffin Park was fantastic, it was our home, but we needed a more modern stadium and the Gtech has been great.

"Five years ago? We beat Sheffield Wednesday 5-0, that was a good win.

"It's been a fantastic journey and hopefully it can continue."

One player who played for Brentford at Griffin Park was Ollie Watkins, who will return to west London when Aston Villa face the Bees this weekend.

On his former striker, Frank said: "I remember when we looked at him, we saw his dynamic and powerful runs, the way he carried the ball forward, so we knew he was a good talent.

"I also clearly remember his first session when he came in and I just thought, 'That's a good player'. There was definitely big potential - we never know how big that ceiling is, so it's mine and my coaches' job to make sure we maximise that.

"He had all the tools and the potential to do what he has done, but you never know how good they can become."
