Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has confirmed another key injury blow on Sunday, this time at the expense of James Maddison.

During the club's 1-1 draw with Newcastle, the Englishman made headlines after being stretchered off during the friendly.

Maddison had entered the pitch late in the second half but managed to only feature for a handful of minutes before going down in extreme pain following a challenge.

According to Frank, after the game, Maddison's injury has occurred in the same knee which kept him sidelined last season.

“It was brutal what happened to Madders," Frank said. "It looks like a bad injury. We don’t know exactly the status of it. It didn’t look good.”

The news is a worry for squad numbers looking ahead to the Premier League season, with Dejan Kulusevski also unavailable.

Tottenham have yet to provide an exact timeline of Maddison's potential stint on the sidelines.
