A day before Barcelona’s big Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid, former midfielder Franck Kessie came to the camp to meet some of his old teammates.
Currently plying his trade with Al Ahli, Kessie surprised some of the Barcelona players by showing up during training.
Now, the former AC Milan midfielder has opened up about his reunion with his former teammates while backing Barcelona to win the Super Cup tonight.
“It was fun. After a year and a half or two, I see my teammates again. It was fun for me and I’m happy. I’m going to support them and I hope we win,” Kessie said (h/t Barça One).
Talking about his own experience of playing the Clasico, Kessie recalled one of the goals he scored in the past.
“My goal in the Clasico is one of my most beautiful goals if not the most beautiful,” he said.
“It was one of my best experiences. I already won in Barcelona. I hope we can win the Super Cup again, like we did two years ago.”
Kessie played for Barcelona for just one season. He joined the club in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer, but after an indifferent debut campaign, he had to settle for a move elsewhere.
The midfielder eventually joined Al Ahli in 2023 for a fee of around €12.5 million. Since then, he has featured in over 50 competitive matches for the Saudi Arabian outfit.
Speaking of Saudi, Kessie stated that the Middle Eastern nation is a lucky charm for Barcelona, as he backed his former club to win the cup tonight.
“I hope we can win the Super Cup again, like we did two years ago. Saudi Arabia brings luck to Barcelona, so I hope Barca wins again in this match against Real Madrid,” the midfielder concluded.
