Amid an injury crisis up front, OGC Nice are being linked with a whole host of strikers, including free agent Memphis Depay (30). Speaking to DAZN France, Franck Haise has responded to the link.
Terem Moffi suffered an ACL injury in pre-season, whilst Jérémie Boga and Sofiane Diop are also yet to feature this season. Whilst Moffi looks set to miss the majority of the Ligue 1 campaign and no return date has been set for the return of Diop, Boga does, at least, look close to a return.
However, ahead of Le Gym’s second match of the season, against Toulouse FC, Haise suffered a fresh blow with Gaëtan Laborde suffering a metatarsal fracture in training. It has been estimated that the former Stade Rennais forward may miss between two and three months of competition.
Nice have since been linked with a move for Yusuf Yazici and Wissam Ben Yedder, both also free agents, as well as Everton’s Neal Maupay. Financially, a deal for the latter two players looks unlikely. According to Haise, the same seemingly goes for Depay.
Asked by DAZN about a Dutch player, currently training in the region, Haise knew exactly who the journalist was referencing – Depay. The striker, whose contract at Atletico Madrid expired earlier this summer, is currently training just a matter of kilometres down the coast in the Principality of Monaco.
It seems he won’t be making the short trip to the Allianz Riviera any time soon. “A Dutchman training in Monaco? Yes, yes I know full well who you’re talking about. There are lots of good players training here and there… But I’ll repeat myself: there are things that we can do, others that we cannot,” said Haise, hinting that a move for Depay is unfeasible for Nice.
