Ajax have announced that head coach Francesco Farioli has left the club after just one season. The former Nice head coach only joined the side a year ago but has taken the decision to leave Amsterdam. Yesterday, Ajax missed out on winning the Eredivisie by a single point, with PSV taking the title. Ultimately, the sides 3-0 home defeat to NEC and last weekends 2-2 draw to FC Groningen cost them the trophy.
Once again, the club will be looking for a new head coach. Since Erik Ten Hag left to join Manchester United, the side have been through a number of different head coaches, but none have been able to replicate the success of the sides former boss. Alfred Schreuder, Maurice Steijn and now Farioli have all been brought in but none have been able to bring trophies to the club.
There had already been rumours that Farioli wanted to leave this summer regardless of what happened, with the reports suggesting he always saw the Amsterdam club as a stepping stone to another role. Farioli leaves with an average of 2.3 points per game in the Eredivisie, with 24 wins, six draws and four defeats in 34 games.
