One week ago, Ajax received news from FIFA that their move for Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana had collapsed due to the club’s late submission of paperwork. Ajax claimed they had successfully submitted all documents ‘at the last minute,’ but football’s governing body deemed this to be untrue. With Steven Bergwijn and Carlos Forbs departing on deadline day, Ajax have two first-team left wingers remaining; Mika Godts (19) and Amourricho Van Axel-Dongen (19).
Head coach Francesco Farioli has spoken out about Kamaldeen Sulemana’s failed transfer, calling it ‘chaotic’ for all involved. ‘It caused frustration for everyone involved,’ the Italian told Ajax’s club channel. ‘Now we’re at a point where we can cry or look ahead for a solution. From the beginning I said that I want to evaluate what I have under control and we have players with quality and human values.’
Farioli has a decent amount of time to solve Ajax’s issues on the wing as his side’s Eredivisie clash with Utrecht has been postponed. The match, originally due to take place this Sunday, has been called off due to police strikes in the Netherlands. They’ll now turn their attention to next Wednesday’s crucial clash with Fortuna Sittard.
