France’s “Golden Generation” Misses Out on Euro 2023

France U19 secured a 4-2 victory against Romania on Tuesday, but it was not enough for Les Bleus’ youth to qualify for the 2023 Euro in their category. Despite their talent, Lionel Rouxel’s side suffered a defeat against Norway (1-2) on the second day of the playoffs, which cost them dearly.

That win put Norway in the top spot in the group, leaving France U19 in second place with six points from three games. The young Tricolores were hoping to not only win, but for a slip-up from Norway against Northern Ireland, but that did not happen.

With players like Warren Zaïre-Emery (PSG), Eliesse Ben Seghir (Monaco), Désiré Doué (Rennes), Saël Kumbedi (Lyon), and the rest of the French squad Les Bleus supporters may have overlooked qualification for the tournament scheduled to take place in Malta in July. This is a major disappointment for the team, especially after such a strong performance against Romania. Even with the missed opportunity, there is little question about the level of this generation and the heights they could all reach.
