France predicted lineup v Argentina: Les Bleus hit with virus uncertainty

Just as Didier Deschamps had settled on a first-choice starting eleven, his plans have been thrown into turmoil by a virus currently sweeping through the France squad.

The flu, which saw Adrien Rabiot miss out on the semi-final win over Morocco and Dayot Upamecano start on the bench, has now spread to other players – notably the defensive pair that faced the Atlas Lions in Raphaël Varane and Ibrahima Konaté.

The Manchester United man missed training on Friday, and should his absence for Sunday afternoon be confirmed, along with Konaté’s, it’s William Saliba who could be in line for an improbable start, having only made a cameo appearance against Tunisia so far. Varane’s situation is said to be not as worrying as the others, having already felt better on Friday after suffering from a fever the previous night. Upamecano appears to be ready to start, even if he has not fully recovered from the virus.

Predicting the eleven to face the Albiceleste is a tall order – any player who shows symptoms on Saturday will likely be out of action. Aurélien Tchouaméni and Théo Hernandez were rested for non-flu-related issues – the first a bruised hip and the second a knee issue – but are expected to be back to match fitness by tomorrow.
