Paris Saint-Germain upgraded their midfield this past summer transfer window, with four additions to the position. However, the capital club did miss out on one name that could have been the cornerstone to the rebuild, Aurélien Tchouaméni.

The capital club was in the mix, challenging for the French midfielder before the 22-year-old opted to head to Real Madrid from AS Monaco rather than head to Paris.

In an interview with Téléfoot (h/t Paris Fans), Tchouaméni discussed the process that went into his decision to choose Real Madrid, which in his words, didn’t take long, over PSG.

“As soon as I heard that Real was in the running, I didn’t think about it,” Tchouaméni said. I told my agent to do everything to try to find an agreement between AS Monaco and the club. I did not hesitate with PSG. Afterward, PSG is a very big European club, but my choice was already turned towards Madrid.”

While the French giants would have wanted to land a player of Tchouaméni’s caliber, the current Ligue 1 champions did alright filling out the group that includes Vitinha, Renato Sanches, Fabián Ruiz, and Carlos Soler.

As a result, both parties seemed content with the outcome, with Tchouaméni deciding to continue his career in the Spanish capital rather than remain in France.
