A victory in a match between Inter and Juventus is always going to mean a lot.

And that is perhaps truer for Thuram than most other players.

The Frenchman is the son of legendary former defender Lilian Thuram.

Lillian spent five years as a Bianconeri player between 2001 and 2006. It is in Turin that he played some of his very best football.

That did not stop Marcus from joining Juventus’s bitter rivals Inter last summer.

And the former Borussia Monchengladbach striker has not taken long to follow in his father’s footsteps by making a big impact in Italian football.

This evening, Marcus experienced his first ever win in a Derby d’Italia match. But unlike his father, he did so wearing the Nerazzurri shirt.

Marcus Thuram Jokes That Father Lilian Will “Have Something To Say” After Inter Win Vs Juventus

Asked if he expects any words from his father after yesterday’s win, Thuram replied “Oh I’m sure he’ll find something negative to say…”

“But not, I’m joking,” the Frenchman said.

“I’m sure he’ll congratulate me and the whole team on a job well done,” he said of his iconic father.

As far as the win over the Bianconeri, Thuram said that “We know Juventus. We know how they play.”

“We played a serious match to win,” he continued.

“We’re very happy to take these three points,” Thuram went on.

“Especially because we got them here at home. I have to thank all the fans for coming out to support us.”

And of his role in Federico Gatti’s decisive own goal, Thuram said that “It came from the work of the whole team.”

“We’re very happy with the three points. Credit belongs to everyone.”
