Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram found his goalscoring touch again against Cagliari – not a moment too soon before the Milan derby.

Nearly two months went by without Thuram finding the back of the net for Inter.

The Frenchman’s previous goal before yesterday evening had come on February 16th, in a 4-0 Serie A victory over Salernitana.

Thuram suffered an injury during a Champions League match against Atletico Madrid not long after.

And then upon coming back, the 26-year-old perhaps was not quite in his best form.

Yesterday, however, Thuram finally found the goal against.

The 26-year-old led the line for Inter alongside former Arsenal and Barcelona veteran Alexis Sanchez against relegation-battling Cagliari.

And the two strikers linked up very well to open the scoring for the Nerazzurri early in the first half. Sanchez certainly deserves his share of the credit for setting up the goal.

But Thuram’s run and clinical finish were significant all on their own as well.

It was exactly that kind of moment that had been lacking from Thuram since coming back from his injury.

Whether the Inter striker was playing within himself a bit or lacking confidence, he had gone many weeks without showing the decisive edge in front of goal.

But Thuram opened the scoring yesterday. Just as he had against Salernitana in February. And just as he has countless times for Inter this season.

And it may not have been a moment too soon for Thuram and Inter.

The Nerazzurri’s next match comes against city rivals AC Milan.

In Thuram’s first ever Milan derby in September, the Frenchman shone. He scored against the Rossoneri on his first ever outing.

And next Monday, Inter will be hoping that a reignited Thuram makes it two from two.
