Marcus Thuram and Marko Arnautovic could be the starting strike pair again for Inter Milan against Hellas Verona.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that there is no guarantee of Lautaro Martinez starting that match.

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez has been out for the past couple of matches.

Naturally, this has limited the options for Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi as far as selecting the attack.

The coach has opted for Thuram and Arnautovic in the past couple of matches.

The French and Austrian internationals led the line in Serie A clashes with Lecce and Genoa.

But clearly, once Martinez is back, the Argentine would be expected to be first-choice in attack.

And Martinez’s return shouldn’t be too far away.

Reports suggest that the 26-year-old is right on track to be fit for Inter’s next match. The Nerazzurri take on Hellas Verona at the San Siro on the sixth, their first match of 2024.

Thuram & Arnautovic Could Start For Inter Vs Verona

According to the Corriere, though, Martinez being back doesn’t guarantee that Inzaghi will change up the attack from the last two matches.

What looks very likely is that the captain will be ready to be part of the squad.

Less certain, however, would be Martinez’s fitness to start.

The Argentine may still need a bit of time to work his way back to full match-fitness.

If Martinez isn’t at 100% then there is little chance that Inzaghi would rush him back into the starting eleven.

The coach is well aware of the need to manage his players’ fitness.

With so many key matches to come in Serie A, the Supercoppa Italiana, and the Champions League, Inzaghi knows that it’s a marathon and not a sprint.

As such, the Corriere, anticipates, the coach could once again go with Thuram and Arnautovic.

Then, Martinez could prospectively come off the bench later in the match.
