Needless to say, there is little love between France and Argentina following recent events, as well as their dramatic 2022 World Cup final, and tensions boiled over after the final whistle of Les Bleus' 1-0 Olympic quarter final victory.

It was a brilliant game, perhaps the best of the tournament so far, and was played in the right fashion. However, there was a simmering tension throughout, with the fans in Bordeaux booing the Argentinians before and during, and neither side likely to take a defeat well.

And so it proved, with French celebrations at the final whistle quickly being interrupted by confrontation on the touchline between members of the respective backroom staffs, and then some of the players.

It was broken up rather quickly, but reportedly continued down the tunnel, as the emotions of a dramatic night took over.

What makes it all the more interesting is that the two managers, Thierry Henry and Javier Mascherano, are certified legends of the game, although neither could be considered a shrinking violet as a player.
