Fowler claims record-breaking February Etihad Player of the Month | OneFootball

Mary Fowler has won February’s Etihad Player of the Month prize after a record amount of votes were cast.

The Australia international pipped Rebecca Knaak and Aoba Fujino to the prize across the three-player shortlist and it represents the first-time she has claimed the accolade.

In what was our highest vote share so far this season for the women's prize with over 27,800 fans having their say - the 22-year-old came out on top with 13,100 votes following a superb individual month in all competitions.

Fowler featured in all four of our matches across the 28 days and she scored a superb four goals and registered two assists throughout them.

What’s more, she also became the first player in the history of the Barclays Women’s Super League to register two goal involvements in four straight top-flight matches, which included a brace in our defeat to Arsenal.

The 22-year-old then broke the deadlock in our League Cup semi-final clash with the Gunners in north London before netting a dramatic winner deep into stoppage time.

After collecting the ball on the edge of the box, Fowler quickly shifted it onto her left and produced a stinging drive from the edge of the box into the bottom corner to send us to the final.

She then helped us to a 3-1 win over Leicester in the FA Cup before claiming two assists against Liverpool in our WSL triumph at the Joie Stadium.

The first saw her slide the ball into Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s path before the Jamaican drilled home and the pair combined again moments later with the Australian dinking it into the box for Shaw to tuck home.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, her exploits in sky blue also earned her a nomination for the WSL’s Player of the Month prize after a wonderful February.
