City defender Alanna Kennedy and forward Mary Fowler both played the entirety of Australia’s 2-0 international friendly win over Mexico.

Australia looked sharp and organised from kick-off and their high intensity paid off after former blue Hayley Raso put her nation ahead on 9 minutes after being picked out by Caitlin Foord.

Fowler provided strong attacking threat in her position as a left forward in the front two for Australia.

It was an interchangeable line with the City forward often dropping deep or moving further out wide to allow Foord to drive towards the Mexico box and cause their opposition issues throughout the game.

Kennedy, in her favoured centre-back position alongside Arsenal’s Steph Catley, was resolute throughout and was rewarded with a hard-fought clean sheet come full-time.

The Matildas continued to dominate possession, and would later finish the game having held the ball for 62% of it, as they looked to gain as much experience as possible from their one and only clash in the April international break.

After the restart Australia looked to extend their lead and did just that through Barclays Women’s Super League compatriot Caitlin Foord who turned from provider to goal scorer in a superb solo goal seven minutes into the second half.

An impressive performance by the Matildas now sees Fowler, Kennedy and their team-mates return to club football in preparation for the final run-in of the 2023/24 campaign.

City's first of our final four WSL games sees Gareth Taylor's side welcome West Ham to the Joie Stadium for a 14:15 (UK) kick-off on Sunday 21 April.
