According to a report from Romain Molina, fourth-tier Parisian suburb side Football Club 93 Bobigny are in talks with a British investor – as the club hopes to move up to the National (third tier) in the event that clubs higher up file for bankruptcy. Founded in 2020, the Seine-Saint-Denis-based National 2 club has become one of the most intriguing projects in French football – fusing street culture, elite ambition, and corporate backing in a bid to one day represent “le 93” at the highest level.Local Rap icon and club shareholder Sefyu describes FC 93 as “the club of the banlieue, the club of the cité.” Alongside Nike, who were seduced by the project’s “spirit of conquest,” and fellow local hero Tiakola, the club is trying to build a unique identity that resonates with young Franciliens, particularly those from under-represented communities.Former Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Édouard has also invested several million euros in the project. Earlier this season, FC 93 made national headlines by eliminating Ligue 2 neighbours Red Star in the Coupe de France before narrowly falling 1-0 to Angers of Ligue 1. For Sefyu, the cup run was “the cherry on top” – proof they’re ready to challenge stronger opposition.Molina does imply however, that the club needs to “pay people on time first, it will be better before thinking about that [investment].” GFFN | George Boxall
