Manchester United pay Carlisle United £10,000 for every Dean Henderson appearance

There are a number of fans keen to see Dean Henderson take over as the number one goalkeeper at Manchester United.

However, the loudest voice calling for such a move will not be coming from Manchester. Rather it will be from League Two side Carlisle United.

Henderson signed for United from the English minnows at the age of 14 in 2011. According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils pay Carlisle £10,000 for every appearance the 23-year-old makes.

The Englishman has made 13 appearances for United this season. This will have netted Carlisle a neat amount, especially given the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on club finances.

The clause does not, however, compensate Carlisle for any appearances Henderson made while away on loan. The youngster spent two seasons on loan at Sheffield United before returning to Old Trafford in the summer.

Henderson is currently the second-choice goalkeeper at United. While he has had his opportunities, the player himself is unhappy at playing second fiddle to David de Gea.

The Englishman could very well leave the club next summer in search of regular playtime. Solskjaer, for his part, believes it will be increasingly hard to leave Henderson out in the future.

Carlisle will hope that is really the case. What impact (if any) any sale will have on the clause remains to be known.

As a player yet to enter his prime, Henderson has courted interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League. They could land the player for as little as £40m this summer.
