On 26 May 2018, Real Madrid wrote a new page into their extraordinary history with the European Cup when they lifted Decimotercera in Kiev. Our boys beat Liverpool 3-1 to become the first team ever to clinch three consecutive Champions League crowns. With 51 minutes on the clock, Benzema opened the scoring when he pounced on the goalkeeper's throw to divert it straight into the back of the net. Liverpool quickly levelled through Sadio Mané before the key moment of the final arrived on 64’ when Bale produced an unbelievable bicycle kick to make it 2-1. The Welshman completed his brace just minutes later, smashing one in from outside the box to clinch the 3-1.

The win saw Real Madrid get their hands on a fourth Champions League trophy in five seasons, a cycle which will live long in the memory of football fans around the world. On their way to victory, the madridistas were matched with APOEL, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham in the Group Stage, before seeing off PSG, Juventus and Bayern Munich in the knockout rounds. Four years on, Real Madrid and Liverpool are set to lock horns in a Champions League final once more (Saturday, 28 May; 9:00pm CEST).
