The United States was on the front foot from the first whistle, as Mexico struggled to find any footing in the match.

The hosts were rewarded for the efforts less than ten minutes before the break, thanks to Christian Pulisic, who capitalized on a scramble on the box to stab the opener in the bottom corner.

The Chelsea man wasted no time in to double the USA lead after the restart, firing home his second on the night just one minute into the second half.

With their chances of qualifying for the final dwindling, Mexico resorted to physicality. After a brutal swipe of the legs saw César Montes receive a red card, Weston Mckennie joined the Mexican in being sent off after a scuffle.

The USA capitalized on the energy in the stadium, as Ricardo Pepi slipped in behind before rounding the keeper and slotting home the USA’s third on the night, driving the final nail in the Mexican coffin.
