Four Milan options to replace Theo Hernandez during two-match suspension

Theo Hernandez will miss Milan’s next two Serie A matches after the international break after his suspension was confirmed on Tuesday, but the Rossoneri have several options to replace the Frenchman.

Theo Hernandez had a night to forget during Milan’s 2-1 loss away to Fiorentina on Sunday, giving away a penalty, missing one himself and then being sent off for dissent after the final whistle.

He will now miss the visit from Udinese on October 19 and then the away trip to Bologna the following weekend.

How Milan could replace Theo Hernandez during suspension

Milan have several candidates who could step in at left-back in their upcoming matches. Zlatan Ibrahimovic claimed at the start of the summer that Alex Jimenez ‘will be Theo’s back-up’.

He has featured in eight Milan Futuro games so far this season, but is yet to feature for Paulo Fonseca’s senior side in 2024-25, but he has been on the bench in the last three league matches. A couple of others have been handed opportunities at left-back ahead of him, though.

One of them is 21-year-old Filippo Terracciano. The former Hellas Verona full-back played the full 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Lazio earlier in the season and is also capable of playing on both flanks.

Another young option could be Davide Bartesaghi, also a Milan Futuro regular. He was sent off almost immediately after coming on for his Serie A debut earlier this month, but could be ready to give it another go with the senior side.

The other option is to play one of the senior right-backs on the opposite flank. If that were the case, it would be more likely to see Davide Calabria line up on the left-hand side with Emerson Royal assuming his regular role at right-back.
