All of England’s group stage matches are now sold out while images of the Lionesses’ stars can be seen across the country on billboards as the nation come together to support the team.
When speaking on the latest edition of Lionesses Live, Hemp said that she is fascinated by the level of support which is being given to England.
“It’s fantastic and something I’ve never experienced before,” Hemp said when speaking about the Lionesses’ support. “I know that England have organised the billboards and things like that around our hometowns. it’s just incredible to see because when I was a young girl we didn’t have that. I still feel so young, and I still look up to people like Jill (Scott) as role models, so to be one myself now just feels pretty incredible.
“It’s important that we inspire young girls to want to play football because the more we get involved, the more talent there’s going to be and it’ll grow the game even more. We’ve seen over the years how much the women’s game has grown and it’s crazy to think how far it can go in the next few years. With it being a home EUROs, hopefully that will just encourage that growth to be even quicker.”
England’s opening match against Austria at Old Trafford is now just 48 hours away. Hemp said that playing at Old Trafford will be an amazing experience, although she joked that another venue in the city would have also been extra special.
Hemp said “I can’t wait to play at Old Trafford. Obviously, I wouldn’t mind it being the Etihad, but Old Trafford is going to have to do!
“I can’t wait to walk out onto the pitch, to do the warm-up and just absorb the crowd. I’m sure it’s going to be fantastic because all the group games are sold out.”
