Fortuna Sittard have announced that striker Kaj Sierhuis has suffered a serious knee injury and will be out for some time. With two games left to go in the season, the side are unable to make the top eight as they are seven points behind Go Ahead Eagles. This hasn’t been helped by a run of six games without a win, which included a 3-2 loss to a Vitesse side that had already been relegated after a huge points deduction.

For Sierhuis, it is a sad end to what has been a very productive season. The 26-year-old Dutch/Greek forward has scored 12 goals in 31 games in the Eredivisie this season. This is by far his best season as a professional footballer, having not reached double figures since playing second division football for Jong Ajax in 2017/2018. The former Reims striker left France after just two goals in 17 games to join Fortuna Sittard last summer and has immediately taken to his new side. In 35 games in all competitions he has 15 goals.
