West Ham United entertained Doncaster Rovers at the London Stadium earlier this evening hoping to earn a win and book a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup. The Hammers made a dream start to the contest as they scored the opener in the second minute courtesy of Pablo Fornals’ goal. Andriy Yarmolenko doubled his team’s advantage just after the half-hour mark to put the home side in a commanding position at half-time.
Andy Butler scored an unfortunate own goal in the 53rd minute which put daylight between the two sides. Oladapo Afolayan came off the bench to put the icing on the cake for West Ham in the 78th minute as they ended up securing a dominant 4-0 victory at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the match against Doncaster Rovers.
The Polish goalie didn’t have too many saves to make in the game and kept an easy clean sheet during his time on the field.
Fredericks didn’t give away anything in defence and made some important clearances at the back. He was also quite lively in the opposition half and has got an assist to show for his efforts today.
The talented centre-back dealt with everything that came his way and did well to restrict the opposition from scoring during the 90 minutes.
The Frenchman maintained a solid defensive shape at the back and did enough to secure the win with the clean sheet intact.
Johnson made a few crucial interceptions on the defensive end of the field in what out to be a dominant display from him this evening.
The veteran midfielder worked hard to win the ball back for his side and was quite tidy with his passing. However, he struggled to create too many clear-cut chances during the game.
Soucek was not afraid to have a shot at goal and gave his teammates enough protection inside the West Ham half. He ran out of gas and got replaced in the 69th minute.
The Spaniard opened the goal-scoring early in the game and ran the show for his team in the attacking third. He was a constant nuisance for the opposition defenders because of his clever runs and creativity in the final third.
The Argentine playmaker created all sorts of problems for the Doncaster centre-backs but will be disappointed for not getting his name on the scoresheet.
Benrahma was guilty of missing a lot of chances. However, he deserves a lot of credit for completing some dangerous dribbles in the attacking third of the field and ended the game with an assist to his name.
He doubled West Ham’s advantage midway through the first half and orchestrated quite a few decent chances for others around him.
The English forward came off the bench to find the back of the net. David Moyes will be quite happy with his impact today.
He did enough to see out the clean sheet.
Trott was hardly involved in the game.
