Former West Ham United full-back Lois Joel has joined London City Lionesses on a free transfer according to reports on The Pride’s official club website.

The 23-year-old North Finchley-born defender was released by The Hammers at the end of last season. Joel spent more than 18 months with the East Londoners in which she made 15 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Joel has long been linked with the move to London City Lionesses and she today signed on with the ambitious Barclays Women’s Championship club.

After joining The Pride, Joel said “I’m really excited to be here, so I can’t wait to meet all the girls and kick the season off.

“For me, I’m looking to come in and make an impact on the pitch, whether that’s by keeping clean sheets or helping out the attack.

“This is a unique club with its own special history, so I can’t wait to get out there and start that push for promotion.”

Joel is London City Lionesses head coach Melissa Phillips’ first signing of the summer. She should add some strong competition for a place in the wide areas after gaining her top flight playing experience at West Ham United.
