Former US international Oguchi Onyewu announces retirement

Oguchi Onyewu announced his retirement on Monday in a post on his Instagram account.

The 36-year-old Onyewu featured for the United States in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and earned 69 caps, scoring six goals and winning two Gold Cups.

He was also a part of the squad that reached the 2009 Confederations Cup final.

Onyewu played in Europe for over a decade, mainly for Standard Liege, and made stops at world-renowned clubs AC Milan, Sporting Lisbon, and Newcastle United.
