Former Tottenham boss Nuno Espírito Santo sacked by Saudi club | OneFootball

Al-Ittihad have dismissed manager Nuno Espírito Santo following a series of disappointing defeats in recent weeks.

His last game in charge came against Al-Quwa Al-Juwiya in the AFC Champions League, which they lost 2-0.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager joined the club in July last year and led them to the Saudi Pro League title in his debut season.

But they saw a drop in their fortunes this campaign, despite signing Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Jota and Fabinho this summer.

The Saudi outfit are winless in their last five league games and are languishing sixth in the standings.

After their recent defeat to Al-Quwa Al-Juwiya, Nuno and Benzema reportedly clashed in the dressing room, per Relevo.

According to The Mirror, Al-Ittihad are now considering former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Julen Lopetegui for the role.

Jose Mourinho has also been linked with the vacancy at the King Abdullah Sports City.

But reports also suggest the Saudi club could look to sign a French manager to please Benzema.

Nuno previously managed Wolves between 2017 and 2021. He led them to Premier League promotion in 2017 and also secured two seventh-place finishes in the top flight.

However, the 49-year-old struggled at Spurs and lasted only a few months before being sacked in November 2021.
