Former Sevilla teammate Alejandro Pozo hints at loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur starlet Bryan Gil in January

Speaking to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo, via Sport Witness (h/t football.london), ex Sevilla player Alejandro Pozo has hinted at his former teammate and current Tottenham Hotspur forward Bryan Gil could leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.

Gil only joined Spurs in the summer, moving from Sevilla in a swap deal that saw former Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela go the other way. The youngster has enjoyed a decent start to life in England, having racked up 19 appearances so far this season.

Alluding to Gil’s lack of regular minutes this season, former teammate Pozo has hinted at the Spaniard leaving Spurs in January on loan in search of more first-team action.

“You always have another team that gives you confidence, as has happened to me, and Bryan has now signed Tottenham, although now he is not playing minutes but hey, he will go out on loan and will play and feel like a footballer again.”

Former Sevilla teammate Alejandro Pozo hints at loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur starlet Bryan Gil in January.

Only 20-years-old, Gil faces competition for a place in the starting XI from the senior players in the squad. He has had to act as cover for stars like Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, and Steven Bergwijn. The Spaniard is also yet to start a Premier League match for Spurs.

Tottenham fans would have hoped to see plenty more of the talented youngster through the rest of the campaign, but from recent comments coming in from Spain, it seems that a loan move away this month might be in Gil’s immediate future.

Pozo, now playing on loan at Almeria in Spain’s second tier, has admitted that he would like a reunion with Gil. He spoke about how a return to his homeland would hit different for the Spurs man.

“He’s quite the footballer and I get along with him great. I already tell you that he would be delighted, because Andalusia is Andalusia. In the end it is our land and it is different for us.”

Following the move from Sevilla in the summer, many were excited about the arrival of the highly-talented player in North London. So far this season, he has only shown flashes of brilliance in the few appearances he has made for us.

Gil has been tipped for big things in the future, but with other senior stars competing for spots in the squad, the Spaniard has his hands full at the moment. We must also not forget that it is not easy for a player to adapt to life so quickly in the Premier League, let alone a 20-year-old.

A loan move may be just what he needs to gain some confidence and garner regular first-team action. If so, we are sure to welcome back a different Gil capable of claiming a place in Conte’s starting XI next season.

Almeria’s Pozo clearly seems to know something we do not, having dropped hints on Gil’s supposed loan move away from London. If the rumours are true, then we can hope that the Spurs man goes out to gain valuable experience and returns a much-improved player.
