Darren Moore has made a strong start to the summer transfer window with his Sheffield Wednesday side, strengthening certain areas of the pitch already.

Given the talent that they possess within the squad and the fact that promotion was not achieved last season, interest is likely to continue surfacing in some of their more integral first-teamers.

One player who has attracted a level of interest already this summer is Lee Gregory, with Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town being credited as potential destinations.

Should no deals come to fruition, then Carlton Palmer believes it could be a very productive campaign for Gregory.

“Like I said, I’d be disappointed if Gregory goes,” Palmer told Football League World.

“He’s under contract for another year. He’s not made any noises about wanting to go. He’s happy where he is.

When did Sheffield Wednesday appoint Darren Moore as their manager?

“17 goals last season, I think he’ll get more this season. Him and Smith, I think comfortably in the Sheffield Wednesday side get 20 goals apiece if they’re fit this season.”

The verdict

A player who still possesses Championship ability, it is no surprise to see that there is interest from the higher division, especially when considering that the Owls have remained in the third tier.

A born finisher, whose attacking intelligence and ability to link the play was on show for all to see last season, add quality in and around him, which they have started to do with the arrival of Michael Smith.

Should he remain at Hillsborough, then it is likely that the pair could form an excellent working partnership, with Smith netting at an excellent rate in the division last season too.

Should an attractive offer from the higher division comes in for Gregory, then it will be interesting to see what the next step will be.
